At Himalayan Routes Camp, we don’t just offer a place to sleep; we offer a gateway to the high-altitude soul of the mountains. As native hosts, our roots are deep in the soil of Lahaul. We understand the rhythm of these peaks and the challenges of the Manali-Leh journey better than anyone.
Located at the breathtaking height of 4,290m on the Sarchu plains, our camp is designed to provide the comfort of ‘home’ in the middle of the rugged Himalayan wilderness. From our luxury Swiss tents with attached baths to our traditional hospitality, every detail is managed with the local expertise and warmth that our community is known for. Whether you are a biker, a trekker, or a traveler seeking peace, we invite you to experience the true spirit of Swang with us.
At Himalayan Routes Camp, we prioritize your comfort, convenience, and safety.
Here are some specific features and amenities that set us apart:
1. Cozy Accommodation: Our campsite offers comfortable and well-equipped tents with attached washrooms, ensuring a convenient and private stay amidst nature’s beauty.

5. Emergency Oxygen Cylinder: Your safety is our priority, and we have an emergency oxygen cylinder available on-site to address any altitude-related concerns or emergencies.

⭐ Most Popular Choice: MAP Plan. Most travelers arriving from Manali or Leh prefer having their dinner and breakfast included as there are no markets nearby.
EP (European Plan): Only your stay. Best for those with their own food supplies.
CP (Continental Plan): Stay and a hot, fresh breakfast to start your journey.
MAP (Modified American Plan): Stay, Breakfast, and a heavy Buffet Dinner.
AP (American Plan): Stay + Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. (Recommended for those staying more than one night to acclimatize).
Sarchu is significantly higher than Manali or Keylong. We recommend staying hydrated and avoiding overexertion upon arrival. As locals of Lahaul, we suggest a slow ascent; if you are feeling the effects of AMS (Altitude Sickness), inform our camp staff immediately. We keep emergency oxygen cylinders on-site for your safety.
To preserve the raw beauty of the Sarchu plains, grid electricity is limited. We provide generator backup during evening hours (usually 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM) for charging your cameras and phones. Mobile signal is very weak or non-existent in Sarchu, so we recommend finishing your important calls in Keylong or Jispa.
The “Sarchu” high-altitude desert is accessible only when the Manali-Leh highway is open, typically from June to September. July and August offer the most stable weather, though nights remain cold (often dropping below 0°C), so carry heavy woolens.
Yes! Unlike many basic campsites, all our luxury Swiss tents come with private, attached western-style toilets and running water to ensure your comfort in the rugged Himalayan wilderness.
At Himalayan Routes Camp, we aren’t just business owners; we are sons of the soil. As members of the indigenous Lahauli community, we have called the valleys of Lahaul our home for generations.
Our deep connection to these mountains means we don’t just see Sarchu as a stop on a map—we see it as a sacred high-altitude landscape that requires respect and local knowledge. When you stay with us, you are supported by a team that understands the winds of the Sarchu plains, the challenges of the Baralacha La, and the true meaning of Himalayan hospitality. We take pride in sharing our heritage and ensuring every traveler feels safe, welcomed, and inspired by the rugged beauty of Lahaul.

It was an amazing experience at the Himalayan Routes Camp at Sarchu. Their hospitality, quality of food, and tenting facilities were excellent. Sachin Sharma, the owner, was fantastic. The day we spent at Sarchu was a full moon, and it was an absolutely magical experience. We were able to take in the stunning beauty of the Himalayas, the clear night sky filled with stars, and the calm, peaceful feeling that comes with being so close to nature. We had delicious meals cooked by Sachin himself and he even took us on a tour of his nearby farm. Everything was just perfect – from the warm welcome to the comfortable accommodation and great food to the breathtaking views – it was an experience that we will never forget.
