Tour Highlights
The Gateway to Lahaul Valley

Experience the ultimate high-altitude circuit. This 1-day taxi tour from Manali takes you through the legendary Rohtang Pass and returns via the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel, offering a complete circle of the Pir Panjal range.

1. Nehru Kund & Gulaba (The Starting Climb)
Our journey begins 5km from Manali at Nehru Kund, a natural spring famous for its crystal-clear water. As we ascend toward Gulaba, the landscape shifts into lush green meadows. This is also the official checkpoint where your Rohtang Pass permit is verified.
Local Tip: Gulaba is the best spot for early morning photography before the crowds arrive.

2. Marhi & Rahala Falls
Located at 11,000 ft, Marhi is our primary stop for a local breakfast. Just before reaching Marhi, we visit the Rahala Waterfall, created by melting glaciers. The air here starts to get thin and crisp—a true sign you are entering the high Himalayas.

3. Rohtang Pass (3,978 Meters)
The crown jewel of your trip. Rohtang Pass serves as the natural divide between the Kullu Valley and the high-altitude desert of Lahaul. Whether it’s mid-summer or autumn, you can often find snow here. We provide ample time for photography and to enjoy the panoramic views of the Geypan peaks.

4. The Descent to Gramphu & Khoksar
After crossing Rohtang, we descend into the rugged terrain of the Lahaul Valley. We stop at Khoksar, the first village in Lahaul. This area feels completely different from Manali—vibrant, windswept, and culturally rich.

5. Sissu & Lake View (The Heart of Lahaul)
We drive further into the valley to Sissu, the gateway to Lahaul. Here, you can witness the magnificent Sissu Waterfall (locally known as Palden Lhamo) and the serene Sissu Lake. The golden poplars and the proximity to the Chandra River make this the highlight for nature lovers.

6. Atal Tunnel (The Modern Marvel)
To complete our loop, we enter the Atal Tunnel from the North Portal (Sissu side). At 9.02 km long, it is the world’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet. We exit back into the Solang Valley, saving hours of travel time and experiencing two different climates in a single day.

7. Solang Valley
Our final stop is the adventure hub of Manali. If time permits, you can enjoy paragliding or zorbing before we drop you back at your hotel.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for the Rohtang Pass 1-Day Tour?

Yes, a special permit is required to cross the Gulaba barrier. When you book with Himalayan Routes, we provide full assistance in securing your Rohtang permit to ensure a smooth, stress-free trip to the gateway of Lahaul

Can we see both Rohtang Pass and the Atal Tunnel in the same day?

Yes! Our 1-day taxi tour is designed as a “loop.” We go up via the scenic Rohtang Pass and return through the 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel, giving you a complete experience of the Kullu and Lahaul valleys.

What happens if Rohtang Pass is closed due to snow?

If Rohtang is inaccessible, we pivot the tour to focus on the Atal Tunnel and Sissu. You will still get to experience high-altitude snow, frozen waterfalls, and the unique culture of the Lahaul valley.
